So back in the early part of July I decided I wanted to go blonde, so of course like any sane person I called up one of my stylist friends, Kristen, to get the ball rolling. Going in I knew I wanted to go blonde however I wanted to shake things up a bit because this isn’t my 1st time doing the blonde thing.During my consultation I made it clear to Kristen that my goal was to become a cool blonde. It was understood that in order to preserve the integrity of my curls that it would most likely be necessary to go through 2-3 color sessions to get to my goal.
So how did Kristen achieve this color?
She used a combination of of permanent color and lightener (not bleach) to create my custom color. Typically in the past I would color only the front half of my head but since I was looking to be a cool blonde in the end Kristen decided that the contrast would be too stark with my natural color so she used permanent color on the back half to create a more subtle contrast.
The results from the 1st round ended with me being a very warm blonde with beautiful face framing highlights. The results were absolutely stunning.
I spent 3 weeks rocking this color out before taking the plunge to go lighter.
So what’s changed about my hair and my routine since deciding to change my natural hair color?
Hair Changes-my curl pattern changed slightly…honestly it’s barely even noticeable. Also my curls are more visible, with my hair being too dense it can be a bit of challenge to see my hair, it’s like it get’s lost in itself.
Routine-I still cleanse, condition and style regularly…for me, now that working out is a part of my lifestyle that’s every 7 days. The only part of my routine that I’ve adjusted is using deep conditioner as my rinse out and I also have been using a lot of mild shampoos while spreading out my clarifying sessions.
It’s important to note color doesn’t ruin curls…either the hair wasn’t in condition to receive the service or the colorist preforming the job wasn’t experienced enough to handle the job.
You are so right. Color does not ruin curls. I went teal and no issues. Yours looks great!
What about henna? Is henna, indigo and or aloe powder ok to use on natural hair mixed with conditioner for color?
